Hai k-pop
citizen ^^! Welcome to our page!
Either you
are the new k-pop fan or not, you always see about Hanteo or Gaon chart will be
displayed during your idol comeback or by some specific fan account from your
fandom fanbase, right? ^^
So what
exactly Gaon it is? Is it different with Hanteo? Are they important? For a
simple explanation you can see our tweet in here. BUT... If you want a detail explanation, don't stop to read this page!😆
GAON
Gaon or
-what they always said- Gaon Music Chart, tabulates the relative weekly
popularity of song or albums in South Korea. Similar with Billboard in U.S and
Oricon in Japan, Gaon calculates all streaming and sales of your idol ^o^. It
started tracking sales since the beginning of 2010 where was officially
launched in February 2010 with a launching ceremony held on 23 Febuary 2010 and
awarded girl group Girls' Generation
with top artist of January and boy band Super Junior with best album of 2009!
More over... Gaon chart influence all South Korea big music awards!!! 😱😱😱😱😱 Even they have their own award, but every Music Award in South Korea take 60%-80% based on the Gaon Calculation.
So do you still think that Gaon not important?? 😏
But... How
they calculated it? Isn't the number of streaming and viewers belonging to each
countries chart? Because Gaon is South Korea national chart, of course they
will just count streaming from Korea region, right?
Yep, it is!
^^
Then, should
International Fans live in Korea to support their idol?
Thanks
God, you shouldn't 😅
Now, let we
see how it works first!😆
1. Music Chart
There are two primary charts in Gaon: Gaon Album Chart and Gaon Digital
Chart. The charts list your k-pop idol sales, international (non-Korean)
artist's sales and a combined overall sales in weekly, monthly and year-end
format.
Gaon Digital Chart RANKS best-selling non-physical, digital music sales, and is an aggregate of downloads, streaming and background music. It excludes radio airplay, and different versions of a song are listed as separate entries. It is compiled from online data provided by web-based music providers such as genie, Melon, Mnet, Soribada, Naver Music, KakaoMusic and Bugs. THERE IS NO DIGITAL ALBUM CHART! because each song is a separate digital download.
So,
for a simple statement,
Gaon = Albums shipped by the
company.
Gaon = Hanteo sales + Sales from stores that aren't Hanteo-certified + unsold copies (that are returned afterwards) 😊

2. Social Chart
There are two social charts in Gaon: Gaon Social Chart and Gaon Weibo
Chart. The chart combined
your idol trending on some Social Media and International
Streaming Platform
Gaon Social Chart is a weekly chart that ranks the top 100 songs according to their popularity on YouTube, Twitter, and YinYueTai.
Gaon Weibo Chart was a weekly chart that ranked the top 10 most popular K-pop groups and the top 30 most popular individual K-pop artists in China using data from Weibo.
Album certifications are awarded
based on shipment figures provided by record labels and distributors.
Download and streaming certifications are awarded to songs based on online data provided by web-based music providers (genie, Melon, Mnet, Soribada, Naver Music, KakaoMusic and Bugs). Albums and songs released on or after January 1, 2018 are eligible for certification.

HANTEO
Hanteo Charts are a record of individual album sales from approved stores (specific store/ not all store) and websites (just some website). We'll give you the list of the website that have been approved by Hanteo!^^

- Kpopmart
- Mwave_kpop-store
- Gmarket
- Ktown4U
- Yes24
- Koreanmall

Hanteo only counts the sales of their stores list but it gives a decent idea of how an album is doing. Hanteo real-time sales are used for weekly shows. This is where the points for physical sales come from.
You can visit GfriendStat to see how many physical sales that Gfriend's album sell every week by hanteo.
